We, the First Presbyterian Church of Hickory, NC, affirm that we are
disciples of Jesus Christ, sinners saved by the grace of God.
We seek to glorify God and grow in faith through our worship, study,
service, and witness. Led by the Spirit, we strive to be obedient to
God's Word as we reach out to each other, our community, and the world.
First Presbyterian Church was founded on March 18, 1873, in
Hickory, North Carolina. The church was originally named Gibbs
Mission after its first pastor, Reverend George M. Gibbs. Five
years later, the congregation built the little white church
where members met until the completion of the church's second
sanctuary in 1906.
No matter how our church's surroundings have changed, our
faithful dedication to worshipping, learning from, and serving
our Lord continues to be a beacon to all those who enjoy warm
Christian fellowship.
We welcome you to First Presbyterian Church and invite you to
become a part of our church family.
